Roku has announced that it has launched a new and updated family of streaming media players. The new family includes the Roku LT that the company says is the easiest and most affordable way to stream content to almost any TV. This player supports up to 720p HD video resolution and is available in the U.S. only for $49.99.
The Roku 1 is the next media player in the family and it has one important feature that the LT version lacks: it supports streaming content in full HD resolution. The Roku 1 is also available outside the United States including Canada, the UK, and Ireland. Pricing and the U.S. is $59.99 with Canadian pricing set at $69.99.
The next player in the line is the Roku 2, which has all the features of the Roku 1 plus a remote control with an integrated headphone Jack and dual-band Wireless-N. It sells for $79.99 in the U.S.
The Roku 3 has been around for a while, but it's now available outside the U.S. including Canada, UK, and Ireland. This player has the same features as the Roku 2 and includes an advanced remote control with motion control for gaming and the player has integrated Ethernet and USB ports.
Along with new media players, Roku has also announced the M-Go movie and TV store that is integrated directly into the home screen of its media players in the U.S. The store includes TV shows such as Glee and Breaking Bad, as well as brand-new fall premieres such as Brooklyn 9-9 among others.
One of the features of the store that is designed to make it easy to use is the ability to bill rentals or purchases of content to a Roku account. That means users don't have to set up an individual account for the M-Go store or get out a credit card to make a purchase.
